What is Ham Radio?
Ham radio is a hobby where amateur (called hams) use their radios, be they handheld, mounted in a car, or stationed at home, to communicate with other hams across the globe. Some hams use their radios to talk to their neighbors, while others chat with fellow hams in far-away states or countries - and some even send their messages into space!
It's hard to summarize the many things hams can do, but here are just a few:
- Radiosport
- Long-distance communications
- Low and High Speed Data Transmission
- Hardware and Software Development
- Volunteer Service
That's where RVAHams comes in. As a central hub for hams in the Richmond are, we can help you connect with local ham radio clubs and opportunities. If you're curious about the many things ham radio has to offer, we hope you'll get in touch!
